Bjorn Borg is a legend

We just couldn't resist! The Wimbledon championships 2010 are right around the corner. So, what better way to celebrate it, than admire one of the greatest tennis players of all time. With his long blonde locks and ice cool demeanor, Borg gave tennis an injection of glamour. The Swedish tennis legend, was a perfectionist when it came to his game, and this attention to detail and aim for perfection shines through in Bjorn Borg men’s underwear collection too.

Before the young phenomenon’s were something common in tennis, we could say that Bjorn Borg was the first one. An early starter, Borg made his Davis Cup debut for Sweden in 1972, at the age of just 15. He compiled a 45/11 win/loss record in Davis Cup singles play. Bjorn Borg sealed his reputation as one of the best match players of his generation. He collected his first Grand Slam singles trophy at Roland Garros, a title he successfully defended in 1975 and won again in 1978, 79, 80, and 81. But although he made the French title his own, he is probably best remembered for winning Wimbledon five years in a row, and a final against John McEnroe which many regard as one of the finest matches ever played.

His game was characterized by consistent topspin groundstrokes, with a double-handed backhand. His technique was thought unorthodox at the time but it was certainly effective. He was strong and fast, and could rally tirelessly from the baseline, retrieving at speed and patiently waiting for the chance to attack. Borg went on to lose to McEnroe at the 1981 and the defeat effectively ended Borg's career. After a few more tries, he failed to win again. Nevertheless, Borg's announcement in January 1983 that he was retiring from the game at the age of 26 was a shock to the tennis world. His legacy went on in his native Sweden, where his success sparked a tennis boom, kick-starting the careers of many, including Mats Wilander and Stefan Edberg, as well as inspiring a generation of today's Swedish pros like Thomas Enqvist, Jonas Bjorkman, and Magnus Norman.
